Niki and Damien, Zambezi Wedding, Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

An elephant going for his afternoon swim in the Zambezi behind you while you say your vows has got to be a beautiful omen. Add to that, the rain that stayed away at all the right times, giving way to a sunlit afternoon riverside ceremony with lots of laughs, a few tears, and the union of two souls who really look like they have forever belonged.

After family photos I stole Niki and Damien away for some quiet moments at the river during golden hour – or more accurately blue hour, for the rainy season skies showed up in their glory coupled with gently swaying Ilala palms, egrets flying over head and the peaceful murmuring of the Zambezi in the background. And one barefoot bride. And one professional guide to watch for big beasties. I don’t think you can ask for much more for a creative couple shoot. For me, it’s so important that the couple actually have a few quiet moments to connect and catch up during their photo time – this is more important than even the photos. This also allows me to get in some lovely environmental portraits while they catch up and breathe it in.

And back to the party when the baboons were roosting and the sundowner boats returning to bay. Beautiful speeches, two best-men, the cutest pageboy on either side of the Zambezi – and enough emotion in the house to cut with a butter knife. And then onto to a full-on party with the ever-talented Mackay duo.
