Lower Zambezi National Park, what a special place to say your vows… Lauren has been coming to the park ever since she was a little girl – the place holds a lot of meaning and memories for her and she was determined that despite the long and bumpy roads and the endless chances for things to go wrong with a wedding so far from town, they would pull it off – and they did!
Well Lauren had one of the most special pre-ceremony toasting spots I’ve ever seen. Her room was directly in front of the ceremony site, so to avoid being seen by guests we snuck away for drinks downriver. And the elephants came out to play! We were so busy watching the ones drinking in front of us that we didn’t realise that a whole herd was browsing quietly in the shadows behind us. We were quiet and after a while they also came down to drink. And then it was time for Lauren to get to her wedding!
After a very emotional ceremony the bridal party and family were whisked across to an island mid-river where they had drinks and we watched as a cow elephant led her two offspring around us. A wedding day is usually non-stop with action and can be quite overwhelming – so I think it was really special for these two that they got to spend quality time with their people on the island, and also, soak up the magnificence of the place they had chosen to start their married life together. Thank you Lauren and Rene for having us. It was wonderful to be part of your day.
