Sarah and Hugo had their wedding on their farm in Mkushi, Zambia, and friends and family piled in with warmth and love to make it the gorgeous, festive, merry community wedding that it was. I love it when couples get ready at home – everything is so much more personal and even the family dogs get to be part of the day! The wedding was really wonderfully rustic and immersed in nature – with a huge branch for an arch at the ceremony, followed by canapés in a miombo woodland clearing. Very sadly Sarah’s parents are no longer with us, and as a beautiful and touching tribute to them, Sarah and Hugo had arranged for a plane to fly over and sprinkle rose petals on the congregation during the ceremony. So very special. There weren’t many dry eyes left amongst the guests.
We did the bridal shoot out in the russet remains of last season’s crop – my favorite kind, with wide open spaces and rich red earth casting warm glows on the couple as they took a small breather away from their guests and just breathed in the moment. And then it was time for dinner and speeches under the stars – followed by one serious party! The star of the dance floor had to be the little man in the second last frame – he was hypnotized by the strobe lights, and when the power (and music) went off briefly and the Mackay brothers gamely stepped in to tide us over with some old-school acoustic favorites – he was mesmerized!
Sarah and Hugo – I hope you love these photos, just a small glimpse into the story of your day.
